Ingredients

  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 cup salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon cream of tartar
  • Food colouring in your favourite colours (we used gel colours)

You'll Need

  • Multix Resealable Sandwich Bags
  • Multix Cling

Method

  1. Place all the ingredients, except the food colouring, in a saucepan and stir over a low heat. When the dough pulls away from the sides of the pan and begins to form a ball, remove from the heat and allow it to cool.
  2. Once the dough is cool enough to handle, turn it out and knead until it becomes smooth. If your using a wooden board now is a good time to cover it firmly with Multix Cling (to stop the wood becoming stained by the food colouring).
  3. Split the dough in half, make hole in the centre of each ball of dough and add a couple of drops of your preferred food colour and then massage the colour through the dough. Keep adding food colouring until you reach a colour you want. Allow the dough to cool and then store and store in Multix slider bags.

Tip: If you have a little person who likes to eat everything you can make this dough without the salt (reducing the water by 1/3 if you do this) but it won’t keep as long as the salty version. If the dough starts to smell sour discard it immediately and make a fresh batch.
