Dark chocolate salted caramel brownies

Our dark chocolate salted caramel brownies are a new take on a old favourite – Brownies. A family favourite for young and old. Yum.

Ingredients

  • 150g butter chopped
  • 150g dark chocolate chopped
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup plain flour sifted
  • ½ cup caster sugar
  • ¼ cup coca powder sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup caramel top and fill
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt crystals

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C.  Grease a 20cm square cake pan and line with Multix bake.
  2. In a small bowl stir the salt crystals into the caramel and set aside. Whisk the eggs until thick. Place the butter in a large heat proof bowl, cover with Multix cling and microwave on a low heat till melted. Add the chocolate cover again with cling and melt on a low heat. Remove from the microwave, stir till thoroughly combined.
  3. With a large metal spoon quickly stir the sifted flour, cocoa, sugar, vanilla and whisked eggs into the warm butter and chocolate mixture, till thoroughly mixed transfer to the lined cake pan. Using 2 teaspoons, make little holes in the chocolate batter and bury little dollops (about 1/2 teaspoons) of the salty caramel.
  4. Bake the brownies in the preheated oven covered with Multix bake for about 20 minutes or until a skewer comes out cleanly when inserted. Allow to cool in the pan,  cut in squares to serve.
