Almond choc orange balls

Fancy a sweet treat with little or no guilt? Our almond choc orange balls are chocolately and nutty with a subtle orange aroma. The sweetness in these little rounds of yumminess comes only from the fresh dates. Plus they are packed full of antioxidants from the raw cacao, proteins from the nuts and zinc form the pepitas.

  • Makes

    35 Balls

Ingredients

  • 1 cup raw almonds
  • ½ cup pepitas
  • ¼ cup sesame seeds
  • 1 cup desiccated coconut
  • ½ cup raw cacao powder
  • 500g fresh pitted dates
  • grated zest of 2 large oranges
  • 2 teaspoons orange flower water (optional)
  • 100g coconut oil at room temperature

To decorate

  • almond slivers

You'll Need

  • Multix Mini Patty Pans
  • Multix All Purpose Containers

Method

  1. On a tray lay out about 35 Multix mini patty pans.
  2. In a food processor, add the almonds and pepitas, then blitz until they resemble crumbs. Add all the other ingredients and blitz again until the mixture is a similar texture to slightly crumbly pastry. Using clean hands, roll about 1 heaped dessertspoon of the date and nut mixture between your palms, into balls about 3.5cm round – they should fit neatly into the patty pans. Place the finished balls into the patty pans on the tray and repeat until all the mixture has been rolled. It’s a good idea to get a kind friend or the kids to help with this. Once you have a tray full of little almond choc orange balls, top each one with a piece of slivered almond at a jaunty angle.
  3. Serve any time you feel like a sweet treat or a protein hit but don’t want cane sugar.
